ERP for automotive suppliers and subcontractors
The customer sets the pace and the format
In automotive you decide neither the calendar nor the protocol. Delivery call-offs arrive by EDI in ODETTE, VDA or EDIFACT formats, mixing a firm horizon of a few days with a forecast running several months out that shifts every week.
Re-entering these messages by hand is still common practice. It is also the leading source of discrepancies: a quantity picked up wrongly means a line stoppage at the customer, and the cost of a line stoppage bears no relation to the cost of the part.
To this are added standardised GALIA or ODETTE labelling, returnable packaging to keep track of, and a quality requirement expressed in parts per million rather than in percent.
Quality is proven before anything is produced
The IATF 16949 logic reverses the usual order: conformity is demonstrated before the first production part, through APQP and then the PPAP file — control plans, process FMEA, capability studies, initial samples.
Once in series production, statistical process control takes over: dimensional records, control charts, Cp and Cpk indices. And on the slightest complaint, an 8D is expected within forty-eight hours, with root cause analysis and verified effectiveness.
AVIA ERP receives the EDI messages and generates the orders, prints labels in the right format, collects readings at the workstation and feeds the control charts. The 8D rests on actual traceability rather than on the workshop's memory.
What an automotive supplier expects from its ERP
EDI and delivery call-offs
Receipt of DELFOR and DELJIT messages, firm and forecast kept apart, automatic generation of requirements and orders. DESADV despatch advice in return.
The direct benefits for your industrial company
No more re-entry of delivery call-offs
The EDI messages create the requirements directly. The main cause of quantity discrepancy disappears.
PPM figures held, not hoped for
Drift shows on the control chart before it leaves the tolerance band, and therefore before it reaches the customer.
An 8D response built on facts
The batch under question leads back to the operators, the settings and the materials in a matter of minutes.
The IATF audit rests on the system
Control plans, capability studies and corrective actions are held in the tool, not in a parallel binder.
The industries AVIA ERP covers
